DEVOTIONAL
Every creative goes through seasons where ideas do not flow, motivation feels thin, and inspiration seems distant. These seasons feel like wilderness. But in Scripture, wilderness is never punishment. It is preparation. Deuteronomy 8:2 reminds you that God leads His people through the wilderness to humble them, test them, and reveal what is truly in their hearts. The same is true creatively.
God uses quiet seasons to refine your character, deepen your dependence, and strengthen your listening. When inspiration feels silent, God is often teaching you to trust Him more than your talent. When progress feels slow, God is building patience. When ideas pause, God may be redirecting your path, protecting you from rushing into something not meant for you, or preparing you for a new level of clarity.
The wilderness trains you to create from presence, not pressure. It strips away comparison. It strips away noise. It invites you to hear God’s voice without distraction. Creatives often resist these seasons, but they are necessary. Wilderness seasons do not kill creativity. They purify it.
If you are in a dry place, do not assume something is wrong. God may be closer than ever. He is shaping your inner life so that your outer work has greater strength.
